Where to recycle Christmas trees and holiday lights in Lincoln
There are many options around Lincoln for Christmas and holiday light disposals.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – LTU announced several places where people can recycle Christmas trees and holiday lights around Lincoln.
The tree drop-off programs will begin on Dec. 25 and last through Jan. 17 at the following locations:
- Ballard Park – 3901 North 66th Street.
- Holmes Lake Park – South 70th and Normal Streets, parking lot west of north softball field.
- Oak Lake Park – three blocks south of Cornhusker on North First Street.
- Tierra Park – South 29th Street and Tierra Drive.
- Seng Park – University Place, North 50th and Garland Streets.
- Woods Park – South 31st and J Streets, southeast corner of the parking lot.
LTU says decorations, tinsel, lights, skirts, disposal bags and stands must be removed from the recycled trees.
Boy Scout Troop 8 will also provide a tree pickup service on Dec. 26 and 31 and Jan. 1, 2, 8 and 9. A pickup for the tree can be scheduled at scoutingfortrees.com or by calling 402-965-1458.
Lincoln Residents can also contact their refuse haulers for tree disposals.
The Recycle Holiday Lights Drive begins today and runs through Jan. 10 at the following locations:
- Eastridge Elementary School parking lot – 6245 L Street, southwest side of the building near the playground.
- Lincoln Children’s Zoo overflow parking lot – 2847 A Street, south of the zoo.
- All Lincoln Fire and Rescue Stations.
Lights attached to garland and wreaths will only be accepted at the Eastridge Elementary parking lot. More information can be found at scrapcentralrecycling.com/light-drive.
The Solid Waste Management Division reminds people to not place holiday lights in curbside recycling bins or community recycling sites.
A portion of the funds raised from the copper extracted from the holiday lights goes towards the Eastridge Elementary PTO, the Lincoln Firefighters Operation Warm and the Lincoln Public Schools Science Focus Program Booster Club.
