Two taken to hospital in odor investigation

Lincoln Fire and Rescue called in the Health Department to address an odor at 56th and O streets Thursday night.

Nine people working at a call center began to feel ill and called the police. Two were taken to the hospital and seven others refused further medical care. LFR says they aren’t quite sure as to the cause.

They monitored the ambient air, the surrounding area, inside the building and said there wasn’t any ongoing threat in the area.

The hazardous materials fire truck called to the scene was just a few blocks away addressing a similar smell before they were called to address the issue on O St.

“Well when it comes out as a hazmat like this, people feeling ill of course we have to think right away, we need to control the environment as best we can,” said LFR Cpt. Andrew Evans. “We need to control the environment as best we can. Deny entry to anybody else to the environment and cause more problems for us.”

Captain Evans believed the rotten egg smell could of been a few different things but couldn’t say for sure. Crews were on scene for about an hour before returning to service.
