A Lincoln church helps women across the globe

On Thursday, the Mustard Seed Ministry, located at the Messiah Lutheran Church near 84th and A Streets, decided to help their fellow woman by making reusable feminine hygiene products for a village in Tanzania.

They partnered with an international nonprofit called Days for Girls, which shares the same goal of providing these products for underprivileged areas.

Wendy Rich, who organized this event, had traveled to Tanzania to distribute products for Days for Girls, where she had a life changing experience.

“The hands reaching to receive were far more than what I had… and i knew that their were some girls who wouldn’t receive what i had hoped to give them… It broke my heart,” said Rich. “That’s what’s caused me to start this”.

However, after starting the group, Rich found it benefited more people than she realized.

“There’s one woman that’s a part of our team, she wasn’t getting out of bed for a very very long time… she gets out of bed everyday eager to contribute to this project, it’s changed her life”.

Since Days for Girls was founded, they have created multiple reusable feminine hygiene products. So far they have reached more than a million women in over 125 countries. In addition to providing much needed feminine products, they aim to educate girls on menstrual health and to stomp out the stigma of feminine hygiene.
