Ashtyn Veerbeek explains decision to transfer from Nebraska to Dordt College

Veerbeek, who started all 29 games she played as a sophomore for the Huskers, said her family and friends were big reason for the decision.

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (KCAU) – Ashtyn Veerbeek pulled out the biggest surprise of the offseason when the Husker women’s basketball starter announced she was transferring to Dordt College, an NAIA school in the GPAC.

Veerbeek, who started all 29 games she played as a sophomore for the Huskers, said her family and friends were big reason for the decision. She starred at Western Christian high school in Sioux Center, Iowa, which is right up the road from Dordt.

“I just started to get more and more homesick and missing my family and friends from back home,” Veerbeek told KCAU in Sioux City, Iowa. “And not being able to go to my brothers sporting events and stuff like that, it just kind of gave me this urge to come back and be able to do some of those things.”
