Boy killed in York hotel roof collapse identified

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The 10-year-old boy killed in York’s Hampton Inn roof collapse was identified by his parents, according to Minnesota TV station KSTP.

On Sunday around 9:05 p.m., the York County Communications Center received multiple calls that the hotel’s roof had collapsed in the pool area.

KSTP’s Joe Mazan spoke with the boy’s parents, who identified him as Ben Prince of Hudson, Wisconsin.

Ben’s parents and brothers were also in the pool area when the roof collapsed, KSTP reported.  The family tried to lift part of the roof off the boy, but it was too heavy.

Ben was pronounced dead at the scene. All other hotel guests were safely evacuated from the scene.
