It was a scary night after a tornado was spotted in Lincoln. Some small towns were not in its path, but they were close, and the thunderstorm that came with it did a lot of damage.
Today, as you drive through Cheney Nebraska, you will see shredded siding, shattered windows, and piles of fallen tree branches. Monday night, golf ball sized hail quickly turned into the size of softballs, tearing through roofs, and destroying cars.
"All the work we put into it, started 37 years ago, and now it’s all gone," Marvin Navratil said.
Darlene and Marvin Navratil were just two of the residents devastated by the severe weather. Luckily three generations of family members came to help with the clean up.
They had to patch up holes because they say it was like a waterfall of rain inside the home, which was a problem encountered by many throughout the village. The Navratil’s say they’re not too worried about insurance but some things will be harder to replace then others.
"Hopefully it will all get taken care of our truck, you saw that is in the drive way there, that is pretty well totaled," Darlene Navratil said.
Neighbors are in good spirits despite the damage they suffered. Jill Brenning says picking up the pieces has been difficult but she’s happy to be alive and everyone in the area is okay which is all that really matters. They say everything else can be fixed in time.
"I’m not stressed or upset. You know things happen, we’ll just do what we need to to clean up, take care of it, and we’ll be okay," Jill Brenning said.
