LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – People are picking up the pieces after an EF-1 tornado destroyed several buildings around a Nebraska lake on Friday.
The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado, which touched down around 10:55 p.m. and traveled 5 miles across Johnson Lake, southwest of Lexington.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission said cleanup is underway at the lake.
Game and Parks asks lakegoers to use caution when boating or swimming, due to debris floating in the water.
Downed trees in the area have already been removed and will not affect camping, according to the press release.
Anyone who finds debris is asked to call the Johnson Lake State Recreation Area office at 308-785-2685 or the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District at 308-995-8601.
