LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Columbus baseball defeated Lincoln East, 7-4, in the A-3 district final on Monday to clinch its first state tournament berth since 1953.

The game initially started on Saturday but was postponed in the top of the 10th inning with two outs due to inclement weather. Columbus led 6-4 when it was paused.

On Monday, the Discoverers added an insurance run in the top of the 10th inning with a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 7-4. Lincoln East responded with two outs in the bottom of the 10th and had runners at second and third with the tying run at the plate. Tadan Bell then made a diving catch to rob the Spartans of a third-straight base hit to extend the game.

Lincoln East still makes the tournament as a wildcard.
