Dozens of people showed up at the capitol to support legalizing marijuana.

“We are turning in over 182,000 signatures to the secretary of state,” said Sen. Anna Wishart.
Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana met on the steps of the Capitol to celebrate and also turn in signatures that are in support of their goal to get a measure on the ballot in November.
The governor stated he is still against the initiative.
“These marijuana companies, the big tobacco companies, they’re trying to go around the regulatory process,” said Gov. Pete Ricketts. “They’re trying to escape regulation and that’s putting Nebraskans at risk when you do that.”
This mother says her talk with the governor was cold, but she is still fighting.
“With my daughter’s case, the only option after trying 15 medications and 3 implants, is brain surgery. Who wants to do that on their child? ” said Shari Lawlor.
And her daughter shares that same spirit.
“I always fell strongly about this drug and that’s why I am stronger than him,” said Brooke.
“There has been so much support in the last couple of weeks,” said Lawlor. “People have just come out of the woodworks to get signatures done and so it proves that everybody does want it in Nebraska.”
