Doane Set To Battle Rival Concordia

CRETE, Neb. — College football returns to Nebraska on Saturday as Doane battles Concordia. It will be the 65th time these teams have squared off, and the second-straight season they will open the season against each other.

It’s added a new wrinkle to their rivalry.

“I want to beat these dudes in,” said Crete senior offensive lineman Sam Vanderslice.

The Tigers have done plenty of that over the past decade, winner 13 of the last 14 matchups. Doane also hasn’t lost at home in the series since 2005.

However, the last few seasons have been much closer contests and that has fueled the rivalry even more.

“We’ve always kind of hated each other,” Vanderslice said.
