Ex-Lincoln teacher convicted of sexual assault dies at hospital

A former Lincoln teacher sentenced for first degree sexual assault of a minor died at the hospital Wednesday morning.

Jackson Hedrick, 27, was serving a 20-30 year sentence out of Lancaster County.

He was a first year social studies teacher at Irving Middle School in Lincoln, starting in August of 2014. Lincoln Police say he had an inappropriate relationship with a student and bought alcohol for her and her friend. Hedrick was sentenced in December of 2015.

Hedrick was being held at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.

“The cause of death has not been determined. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, a grand jury will conduct an investigation,” said the Nebraska Department of Corrections in a press release.
