Former Huskers Progress in FIBA Basketball World Cup

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – In the first round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers, four former Huskers were able to help their countries during games.

New Zealand’s Tai Webster played 19 minutes with a total of six points. New Zealand was up 63-28 at halftime and continued the energy through the end winning 129-75 against Guam. Webster played for the Husker basketball team from 2013-2017.

Australia’s Jack McVeigh played 22 minutes with a total of three points. The team won 92-49 against the Philippines and won group A. McVeigh played for the Husker basketball team from 2015-2018.

Japan’s Keisei Tominaga played five minutes going scoreless. Japan won over China securing the top spot in group B but ultimately lost to South Korea in the last game 81-79. Tominaga played for the Huskers from 2021-2024.

Iceland’s Thorir Thorbjarnarson played seven minutes scoring three points. The team won 88-86 in the close game against Great Britain. Thorbjarnarson played for the Huskers from 2017-2021.
