Garages catch fire at Lincoln apartment complex; officials investigating cause

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — At least three garages have significant damage after they caught fire at a south Lincoln apartment complex early Monday morning.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Eddie Mueller said crews responded a little after 5 a.m. at the Lodge Apartments near 40th Street and Old Cheney Road.

Mueller said as many as three garages caught fire and several more were damaged by smoke and water.

Mueller said the state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the flames.  And at this time, the amount of damage is unknown.

A Channel 8 reporter at the scene saw at least one vehicle that appeared to be damaged by the fire.

Mueller said neighbors told officials that people sometimes sleep in those garages, but there are no reports of injuries.

This is a developing story. Channel 8 will provide updates as they are received.
