2-year-old boy remains in critical condition after being trapped inside bouncy pad that blew over

A 2-year-old boy remains in critical condition Thursday after a bounce pad he was on blew away, officials say.

The incident happened around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night at JK’s Pumpkin Patch north of Lincoln.

Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says a wind gust of nearly 60 mph lifted the pad off the ground and sent it flying 30-40 yards through the air.

Wagner says the platform, which is approximately 60 feet long and 40 feet wide, folded over the boy and trapped him inside.

He said the wind gust came out of nowhere.

“This was an abnormal incident,” Wagner said.

The boy’s mother and 5-year-old sister were also on the pad at the time.

Wagner says the girl was treated and released from the hospital.

The 2-year-old boy is still in critical condition at Bryan West Hospital.

Officials say they believe the bouncy pad was properly secured at the time of the incident.
