LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach had some special guests Monday evening.

The Husker baseball team was there to serve meals to those in need.

This was the first year the players did it, and they enjoyed stepping away from baseball to meet new people and helping out the community.

“We love giving back to the community, and it’s really awesome to take the focus off of us and put it on something else that’s a lot bigger, and something that we understand that we’re pretty blessed with the opportunity we have,” said Drew Wessel, a sophomore catcher.

“Cold days, long days, just some people are going through tough times. It’s nice to see a smile on their face,” said Garrett Anglim, a sophomore right fielder.

Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach serves lunch and dinner seven days a week. In a typical year, it provides 100,000 nutritious meals to the hungry in Lincoln.
