Husker basketball player Sam Griesel to host blood drive on Friday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Nebraska men’s basketball player is hosting a blood drive on Friday after experiencing a scary situation himself.

Sam Griesel, a senior guard for the Huskers, says he suffered from a bleeding stomach ulcer back in November of 2021 while he was playing at North Dakota State. The Lincoln East graduate credits a four-hour blood transfusion for his ability to get back on the court just a week later.

“Through my experience, I learned about blood donation shortages we have across the country,” Griesel said in a press release. “I was so grateful that someone took time out of their day to donate blood so that I could feel better. I’d like to use my platform to help spread awareness for this issue.”

Friday’s blood drive runs from 12-6 p.m. inside the West Stadium Club of Memorial Stadium. To sign up to donate visit here.
