‘I love this city’: Lincoln mayoral candidate Suzanne Geist talks campaign
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Suzanne Geist, a state senator and mayoral candidate, is working to win the community’s trust while campaigning in Lincoln.
Geist, who announced her bid for mayor last September, sat down with Channel 8 to discuss her plans.
“I think the most important thing that the community needs to know is, this is a place that I have called home for over 20 years,” she said. “I love this city, I love the opportunities that are here.”
Public safety is a hot topic among each candidate, and Geist says her experience in the Nebraska Legislature has prepared her to work with law enforcement.
“It’s just not making sure they’re well paid, not just giving verbal agreement that I support law enforcement or I support our first responders, it goes deeper than that,” she said. “I have a record in the Legislature standing for law enforcement, even when others find it difficult to do.”
Another highly publicized issue has been Lincoln’s roadways.
“What I would do in my administration is really dig into the budget and take a look at the things that we can reorganize and emphasize spending on roads, just like any other family budget,” Geist said.
Channel 8 has also spoken with incumbent Leirion Gaylor Baird and Stan Parker, another mayoral candidate.
