‘I’m ready to move on’: Waverly superintendent formally resigns

WAVERLY, Neb. (KLKN) — On July 9, Dr. Cory Worrell, superintendent of Waverly Public Schools, announced in a school board meeting that he was resigning.

After 10 years, Worrell says there are now different paths in his future.

“I think it’s time in my life where I’m ready to move on and try something different,” said Worrell. “I think the timing is good for the next person to come in and I feel like we’re a district that has a lot of good things in place.”

Worrell has led the school district of more than 2,000 students and 150 teachers.

“I feel like we’ve always done a pretty good job of working together and as a team,” said Worrell. “We try to do what’s right for our students first and foremost.”

In his resignation letter, Worrell said it was an honor to serve in the position and that the Waverly school district is a special place.

A meeting will be held July 21 where the board will learn how they will find the next candidate. The district expects to fill the position by Dec.

Worrell said he trusts the board in his absence after his last day on Jun 30, 2027.
