Inmate breaks staff member’s nose after attack at Lincoln prison, officials say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A staff member at the Reception and Treatment Center is recovering from a broken nose after being assaulted by an inmate.

A spokesperson for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says it happened Saturday afternoon, when the staff member was taking the inmate from the bathroom back to a holding cell.

The inmate refused to return to the cell and punched the staff member in the face, according to the department.

The victim was able to contain the inmate until other staff arrived to remove him from the area, authorities said. The victim was treated for a broken nose at a hospital.

An investigation is ongoing.

The department said a disciplinary process will be used, with possible punishments including the loss of good time.
