LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) –  A convicted murderer is back behind bars Thursday morning after being reported missing late Wednesday night, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

LPD tells Channel 8 Christopher Manzer, 47, was involved in a car crash near 13th Street and Highway 2 Wednesday night before being taken into custody again. Manzer suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Earlier Wednesday, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said Manzer did not return back from his job in the community on Wednesday. He had also removed his monitoring device, according to a press release.

Manzer began his life sentence in 1993 on charges out of Pierce County that include second-degree murder, assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Officials say Manzer had a parole board hearing scheduled for Jan. 2023.
