Interview: YMCA, People’s City Mission preview coat drive

The YMCA is celebrating 150 years in the Lincoln Community by partnering with the People's City Mission for a coat drive. It began Friday, Oct. 1, and it will run through Oct. 22. 

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The YMCA is celebrating 150 years in the Lincoln Community by partnering with the People’s City Mission for a coat drive. It began Friday, Oct. 1, and it will run through Oct. 22.

J.P. Lauterbach, the Lincoln YMCA’s chief operating officer, and Tom Barber of the People’s City Mission joined Channel 8 news Friday morning to preview the event.

Lincoln YMCAs will be collecting new and gently used coats for those in need this winter. Community members that donate a coat will receive a free pass to “Try the Y” for a week—valid through the end of the year. Current YMCA members donating coats will be entered into a drawing to win a Free Y Membership for 2022.

After the drive, there will be a kick-off coat distribution at the People’s City Mission Help Center on November 5.
