‘It’s going to be a little more pricy I suppose’: Local auto repair shops bracing for expected increase in motor oil prices
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — With Memorial Day weekend approaching, people should prepare for a rise in the costs of oil changes at local auto shops.
“It’s going to be a little pricier, I suppose.” But not at Wolfgang Auto Service.
Terry Wolfgang says he hasn’t changed his prices in 10 years and doesn’t plan to.
“I try to keep at a decent and affordable price so that we make a little bit of money,” said Wolfgang, the owner of Wolfgang Auto Service. “We want customers to want to come back and service their cars on a regular basis.”
According to Axios, there could soon be a shortage of motor oil stemming from the war in Iran.
The impact could ripple through the oil-changing business, auto parts stores and repair shops.
Wolfgang does say his cost of supply has jumped by about an extra dollar per quart. But, he’s not too concerned about it. However, he does anticipate it to rise more.
“If things don’t settle down in our industry, we’re going to feel the crunch eventually,” Wolfgang said. “We’re lucky right now because we’re using up all of our supply and stock.”
He also says his main goal is to make a 30% profit. So, as long as he stays above that line, he won’t make any changes.
