Kansas City Chiefs select Nebraska RB Emmett Johnson in the fifth round of the NFL Draft

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Former Husker Emmett Johnson heard his name called on day three of the 2026 NFL Draft. Johnson was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 161st overall pick, in the fifth round.

The 22 year-old rushed for 1,451 yards and 12 touchdowns in his final season at Nebraska. Johnson was the first offensive player the Chiefs selected in the 2026 draft.
He’s also the only Nebraska player to be drafted in 2026.

Last season, there were two huskers drafted. Ty Robinson was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round, and Thomas Fidone was selected by the New York Giants in the seventh round.

Johnson will join three other running backs on the Kansas City Chiefs including Kenneth Walker III, Emari Demercado, and Brashard Smith.
