The Lincoln Mall looks like a ghost town if you compare it to Sunday when hundreds were wrapped around the Capitol.

Some cleaning crews could be seen picking up trash or power-washing spray paint off of the walls. Many buildings have boarding up windows and citizens could be seen pointing out the changes to the mall after protests went awry this weekend.

Channel 8 caught up with one who says after participating in the peaceful rally on Sunday evening, she still wanted to make a difference.

“I just kind of was a little concerned when I woke up, how things would be looking down here today,” says Alison York, a Lincoln resident. “I wanted to come down and I’m off work today and just wanted to see if there was any trash that needed to be cleaned up or anything like that.”

York says she is grateful for the peaceful rally last night and hopes the violence is over for the community and the officers in Lincoln as well. Again, downtown Lincoln looks much different but people tell Channel 8 that they hope the city returns back to normal soon.
