A Lincoln man accused of murder has been extradited back to Nebraska.

Authorities arrested 30-year-old Ryan Long, of Lincoln, in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, last month in connection to the shooting death of 31-year-old Michael Whitemagpie. He was booked into Lancaster County Jail on Wednesday.

Whitemagie was found around 4 a.m. on May 23 in an alley near 33rd and S St. with multiple gunshot wounds.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said Long was stopped by Florida officers for a seatbelt violation. He was found with a stolen 9mm handgun that investigators are still analyzing to determine whether it was the weapon used to kill Whitemagpie, Bliemeister said.

Long has a lengthy criminal history, including pending felony cases. He bonded out of jail four days before he allegedly killed Whitemagpie, according to court records. Other records detailing the investigation of the shooting remain sealed.

Long faces charges of first-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony in connection to Whitemagpie’s death.
