Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announces bid for reelection

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln’s mayor is hoping to serve another term as the city’s leader.

On Monday, Leirion Gaylor Baird, who has served in the role since 2019, announced her bid for reelection.

In a press release, Gaylor Baird outlined some future priorities for Lincoln, including public safety.

“I have prioritized strengthening public safety since my first day in office, both as a city councilor and now as mayor,” she said in the release. “I have delivered on this issue by using the tools I have – most notably our City budget – to ensure our community is a safe one.”

Gaylor Baird pointed to some of her accomplishments while in the office, including increasing the city’s investment in law enforcement.

State Sen. Suzanne Geist announced her candidacy for mayor of Lincoln in September.

Former Husker football player Stan Parker also declared for the position at the beginning of October.

The election will take place in the spring of 2023.
