Lincoln Southeast hires Werning as boys basketball coach

Prior to his tenure at Southeast, Joey Werning was an Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach and the Head JV Boys Basketball Coach at Kearney Catholic High School for two seasons.

LINCOLN – Lincoln Southeast High School Director of Athletics and Activities, Dr. JJ Toczek is proud to announce Joey Werning as the Knight’s new Head Boys Basketball Coach.  Last season, Coach Werning was Southeast’s Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach.

Prior to his tenure at Southeast, he was an Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach and the Head JV Boys Basketball Coach at Kearney Catholic High School for two seasons.  Coach Werning began his coaching career as a Freshman Boys Basketball Coach at his alma mater, Lincoln Pius X High School, where he was also an All-State basketball player his senior year when the Thunderbolts finished the season ranked 2nd in the State.  Currently, Coach Werning teaches Business and Computers at Southeast.

Coach Werning takes over the Knight Boys Basketball Program from Jonah Bradley who is continuing his coaching career at the collegiate level in Minnesota at NCAA Division II, Winona State University.  Bradley and the Knights finished the 2019-2020 season with a 14-11 record and a District Runner-Up Finish (losing to Bellevue West, the eventual 2020 Class “A” State Champions).
