Lincoln teams pray for ‘Pius X father, officer Mario Herrera’
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Friday, Pius X rallied around their varsity football team and the family of Mario Herrera.
To Pius, the Herrera family is a stable of their school: the mother a staff member, three kids alumni, and one an active student.
So, as Pius X prepared for their match up with Lincoln Northeast at Seacrest Field, they included a special message for the family.
Players a flash of blue could be seen on the green and white helmets as they now displayed blue lines in honor of fallen LPD officer Herrera.
Also, before the 8:15 pm kickoff, the stands turned silent as the announcer led the crowd through prayer.
The words ‘We pray especially to Pius X father, officer Mario Herrera,’ could be felt resounded throughout the stadium.
Saturday, Sept. 12, Inv. Mario Herrera’s public funeral service will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
