- Male suspect suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is currently in the ICU
- NSP trooper hospitalized after crashing into suspect’s vehicle. He is in good condition.
What began with an armed robbery report led to a series of events that left one dead and two hospitalized, Saturday.
Around 8:40 this morning, LPD contacted a victim who said a white male had confronted him with a pistol in the parking lot of a Northwest Lincoln hotel. The robber was accompanied by a white female driving a white Chevy Trailblazer.
While an LPD officer was taking the report, the victim received an alert that his credit card was being used at a gas station in Northeast Lincoln.
An NSP trooper in the Northeast area spotted the Chevy and attempted to pull them over. The Chevy instead sped away, so the trooper pursued them.
During the chase, the male suspect began shooting from the moving vehicle.
Another trooper used an intervention measure to stop the Chevy on a bridge near 56th and Hwy 77. This caused both vehicles to crash into each other, injuring the trooper. He was taken to a local hospital and is in good condition.
A shootout between officers and the suspects took place. The male suspect suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The female suspect also produced a gun and disobeyed officer commands. It is unclear whether the female ever fired, but she was also shot.
Both suspects were taken to a local hospital. The male is currently in the ICU with life-threatening injuries. The female underwent emergency surgery but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The names of the suspects are not being released at this time, but they are both from Wyoming. The Chevy they were driving was also flagged as stolen out of Wyoming.
Travelers are encouraged to still avoid the area of 56th and Arbor Rd. The area will remain closed for an unknown amount of time as the investigation continues.
Chief Jackson said, “This is a complex detailed investigation, and we will update the public as more information becomes available.”
