LPD: Teen shoots family cat, arrested for animal cruelty

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Wednesday, Lincoln Police received a call from a frantic mother, whose son reportedly shot their 1-year-old cat.

The gun that the 15-year-old son allegedly fired was locked up by the time police arrived around 8 pm at the East Lincoln home.

He had fired the gun at the family pet while inside the home. Sadly, the cat succumbed to its injuries.

Officers discovered that the gun had been stolen from a friend’s house a month and a half ago. The serial numbers on the firearm had also been scratched off.

The teen was arrested on two weapons charges and animal cruelty. He was later turned over to a youth assessment center.

Animal Control is still investigating the incident.
