Man accused of assaulting Beatrice police officer, having $30,000 worth of meth

BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) — A man in Beatrice is behind bars after police say he assaulted an officer and was found with thousands of dollars’ worth of drugs.

The Beatrice Police Department says it conducted a routine traffic stop on Friday.

During the stop, the driver, Zachary Grummert, became agitated. Police said he refused to follow officers’ commands.

While police tried to arrest him, Grummert assaulted at least one officer, the department said. Both he and the officer suffered minor injuries.

After Grummert was taken into custody, officers found around $30,000 in methamphetamine, along with a gun, THC and drug paraphernalia.

He faces more than a dozen charges, including assault on a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Grummert is scheduled to be arraigned in Gage County on Tuesday.
