Omaha man accused of starving mother to death

Robert Rogers

A 44-year-old Omaha man has been charged with manslaughter, accused of letting his mother starve.

Robert Rogers denies the allegation and says she died of natural causes. He was charged Wednesday. Court records say 66-year-old Connie Rogers was found by police on May 27 “in an extremely emaciated condition'' and covered with severe bedsores. Her driver's license listed her weight as 140 pounds. An autopsy report says her body weighed only 70 pounds and that she died of pneumonia.

Police say Connie Rogers died in her bed but suspect her son put fresh clothing on her body and moved it to a living room couch before calling authorities to report her death. He denied attempting any ruse. Court records don't list the name of Robert Rogers' attorney.
