Man wielding wooden cane hit 65-year-old on head in Grand Island, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man has been accused of second-degree assault after he struck a man on the head with a cane, Grand Island Police say.

On Sunday around 4:50 p.m., officers were sent to the area of 16th and Sycamore Streets on a report of a disturbance.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the 65-year-old victim, who said he had been punched in the face “multiple times” by Jorge Gonzalez Garcia.

He also told officers that Garcia struck him on the head with a wooden cane.

Police said the victim had cuts on his face and a bump on his head.

Garcia admitted to punching the victim, police said.  A witness also saw him hit the victim.

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
