VIDEO: 5 dead after massive interstate pileup, 70 vehicles involved
An early morning pileup in Texas leaves 1.5 miles of an interstate closed down.
FORT WORTH, Texas (WFAA) — A massive pileup in Fort Worth leaves multiple people trapped along Interstate-35W.
At least 70 vehicles were involved, including several 18 wheelers. Police are now reporting that five individuals were killed in the crash and 36 were taken to the hospital.
The crash took place at 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Weather was likely a factor, according to police, as the road was wet and slick from freezing rain that fell overnight.
A MedStar vehicle also became tangled in the wreck. MedStar is a not-for-profit ambulance.
MedStar spoke with ABC affiliates WFAA, saying they have a number of patients from the pileup but are unable to move them from the scene as an 18-wheeler is blocking the roadway.
The accident stretches for about 1.5 miles, with all lanes blocked.
WOW! I have never seen a pileup this bad in DFW since I’ve been here.
Look at the images I just received from the terrible pileup in #FortWorth this morning. Please AVOID this area. Some drivers have been stuck in traffic four 1.5 hours. @News8Daybreak @wfaa #Iamup #DFWTraffic pic.twitter.com/gHcMXY4QPg— TasharaTakesTexas (@TasharaParker) February 11, 2021
