Neb. State Treasurer Won’t Seek Re-Election
Nebraska State Treasurer Shane Osborn says he won't seek re-election.
Osborn told The Associated Press on Wednesday he will not seek a second term so he can focus on raising his three children.
Osborn and his wife, Teri, announced plans to divorce this year.
Osborn gained national fame in 2001 when he safely landed a crippled Navy surveillance plane on a Chinese island and was taken prisoner for 11 days.
Osborn's wife claimed he abused her. Osborn has denied the allegations and had previously planned to request his wife receive a psychological evaluation as part of court proceedings.
A protection order against him was lifted in May at his estranged wife's request. Osborn says the decision not to run for re-election wasn't a difficult one because “my kids need me.''
