Nebraska baseball placed bid to host NCAA Regional

The NCAA is moving away from host sites based on individual team records for the 2021 tournament and will have predetermined regional sites.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The NCAA baseball tournament could make a pit stop in Lincoln.

Nebraska was one of several schools to place a bid to host a regional this postseason, according to head coach Will Bolt. The NCAA is moving away from host sites based on individual team records for the 2021 tournament and will have predetermined regional sites.

“It is a different year,” Bolt said. “Usually, the Saturday before you’re figuring out who’s hosting regionals. They’re going to do it a little earlier this year because I imagine the health and safety protocols that have to go into it.”

The NCAA will also have predetermined sites for the super regional round as well.

Nebraska (15-6) currently sits on top of the Big Ten standings, leading Michigan (15-7) by a half of game. Bolt feels the Big Red have put themselves in a great position to have a shot at hosting at least a regional.

“We feel like if we keep playing high-quality baseball, we’d have a good opportunity to host,” Bolt said “We feel like we have the facility to do so, we have the fanbase to do so, like I said, we have the administration that’s very supportive.”

The NCAA will make a decision on the sites the week of May 10.
