Nebraska to feature in Dubai World Expo

Nebraska ag products appear on the world stage in February

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – When the delayed 2020 World Expo, held in Dubai, finally starts in October, the United States will again take part. A few months after the start, in February, Nebraska will feature prominently at the USA Pavilion.

Secretary of State Bob Evnen will be headed to Dubai in time for Nebraska Day, a chance to highlight 1 of only 8 states to be featured at the Expo. When Nebraska Day ends, the night gets a Taste of Nebraska event to bring our Midwest flavors to the world.

“The World Expo has 190 countries participating”, says Evnen. “They expect about 25 million people to visit in the 6 months when that expo is going to be open.” That kind of exposure certainly does put Nebraska in the limelight.

What’s more, the Gulfood Show takes place during the same time. It’s the world’s largest annual food show, also held in Dubai. As you might expect, Nebraska will feature in this show as well. “We’re looking at expanding the markets for Nebraska agricultural products, ag commodities, value-added agriculture, and agricultural equipment and technology”, explains Evnen.

One of the opportunities afforded by a pair of international shows is Nebraska being shown off to the world’s emerging markets. Secretary Evnen recalls a previous trade mission to Bulgaria, a nation that loves dry beans. Nebraska just so happens to be a premiere producer of Great Northern beans. Expo 2020 Dubai and the Gulfood Show could both result in similar matches.
