With a new Romantix shop set to open in Lincoln, some neighbors have concerns. After a fire destroyed their downtown building, Romantix is back. But the location the adult novelty store chose, has sparked some mixed reaction. With the Romantix shop set to open in southwest Lincoln, some in the area have their concerns.
But the owner is confident the store will be a success. Everyone remembers the Romantix fire last December in downtown Lincoln. And while owners are leaving the option open of rebuilding there, another Romantix which is being called a “soft store” will soon be open for business at south Tenth just south of Van Dorn.
That location also happens to be next door to a Subway restaurant. We spoke to the owner.
“I was surprised they picked this location to move there business to, I haven't had any negative reaction like I thought I would from customers that come in here my only concern would be the families that come in with there children,” Angie Updegraff, Subway owner said.
But over at Romantix, Steve Brown says they're not worried about being at that location. He says the shop has taken steps including a privacy fence and covering all the windows so you can't see inside. He says they will primarily sell women's apparel. While there will be DVD's, there won't be any magazines or video arcade booths.
At Subway -they aren't necessarily upset the shop is there-they hope its presence won't affect their future business. We were told Thursday afternoon that the Romantix shop is set to have their official opening either Friday or Monday.
That is nearly 7 months since the blaze downtown that destroyed their building and all it's contents.
