No DTE Rail layoffs planned after company sale
No layoffs are planned at DTE Rail Services' operations in Nebraska, Colorado and Indiana after the company is acquired by FreightCar America Inc.
FreightCar spokesman Laurence Trusdell told The Grand Island Independent that all 130 DTE Rail Services employees are expected to retained after the $23.2 million deal is completed in the fourth quarter.
Chicago-based FreightCar says the acquisition will help it diversify its revenue sources and expand its service business.
Many of the cars DTE Rail maintains were made by FreightCar. DTE Rail is a subsidiary of DTE Energy Co. in Detroit.
Most of its workers are based in Grand Island and Hastings, Neb. Grand Island plant manager Bob Marshall says workers shouldn't notice many changes with the sale.
