Organizations Donate Fans in Recent Heat

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Salvation Army has partnered with Westlake Ace Hardware to donate fans to those affected by the recent high temperatures. Customers raised more than $5,200 in order to help out the community.

“We are so grateful for the Lincoln community for stepping up and helping donate these box fans,” said Matthew McCarter, a lieutenant at the Salvation Army. “It’s going a long way to help people stay cool this summer.”

With the money raised the Salvation Army and Ace Hardware were able to buy nearly 300 box fans. Volunteers from Arrow Capital and Ace Hardware helped facilitate the delivery to Salvation Army.

The fans will be distributed tomorrow, July 1 from 12-4 p.m. and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. One fan will be available per household and recipients must present a photo ID and proof of them having a Lancaster County address.

This effort is part of Ace Retail Group’s annual Fan Drive. They have now provided more
than 78,000 fans to Salvation Army locations across the country. Every dollar that has been donated from the area stays in the Lincoln community.

The organizers say the fans are to help seniors, families in need and other residents that need help during the summer months and the recent extreme heat.
