Pinewood Bowl gets ready for summer concert series

In four short weeks, the amphitheater inside Pioneer’s Park will be lit up and packed with thousands of fans.

Pinewood Bowl’s summer concert series begins Saturday, June 7th and organizers are expecting another successful year.

“The artists have come in, they’ve had nothing but great things to say,” SMG General Manager, Tom Lorenz said. “The crowds are great, production works well but they love the atmosphere.”

Ben Folds, Blue October and The Killigans will kick off the third season. Other big names include Widespread Panic, Sara Bareilles and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

“Sometimes we’re looking for a big name but sometimes we’re looking for something that’s a little bit different and something that really lends itself to this outdoor kind of fun atmosphere.”

One of the most popular shows to be announced so far is Boston and The Doobie Brothers. Organizers say none of the shows are sold out as of yet, but some are getting pretty close. You can buy your tickets ahead of time or at the door if they’re still available.

Some things to remember if you’re planning on going to a show this year are alcohol is available for purchase inside the bowl but is not allowed for tailgating, parking is available at the park and the shows will be played rain or shine.

“We don’t allow people to bring in food or blankets or chairs. We’ll either have chairs and all that type of stuff set we’ll have concessions here.”

The annual summer musical this year at Pinewood Bowl is Shrek. That will be in mid July.
