Pius X’s Sam Hoiberg commits to Husker basketball

Sam Hoiberg, the son of Husker men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg, committed to Nebraska on Thursday. He will be a preferred walk-on for the Big Red.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two Hoiberg’s will be a part of the Nebraska basketball program next year.

Sam Hoiberg, the son of Husker men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg, committed to Nebraska on Thursday. He will be a preferred walk-on for the Big Red.

Sam Hoiberg averaged just over 14 points a game for the Thunderbolts this past season, leading Pius X to the Class A state tournament.

He and his twin brother Charlie both started for the Thunderbolts.

Fred Hoiberg’s oldest son, Jack, is currently in the transfer portal after spending his first four seasons at Michigan State. He has not committed to any school yet.
