Former Husker quarterback Casey Thompson transfers to Florida Atlantic

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Former Nebraska quarterback Casey Thompson is heading to the Sunshine State.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Wednesday that Thompson has committed to play his final collegiate season at Florida Atlantic.

Thamel said Thompson received interest from Notre Dame, Indiana, Houston and Texas State.  He also considered staying with the Huskers.

Thompson, who transferred to Nebraska from Texas, played in 10 games last season, leading the Huskers to four wins.

After suffering an injury against Illinois, Thompson missed games against Minnesota and Michigan.

He returned for the Huskers’ final game, helping Nebraska to a 24-17 win over the Hawkeyes.

Thompson finished the season with 2,407 passing yards and 17 touchdowns through the air.  He also totaled five rushing touchdowns on 56 carries.

Thompson, and Nebraska QBs Logan Smothers and Richard Torres, entered the transfer portal in April.

The Huskers’ roster now includes four quarterbacks, including Jeff Sims and Chubba Purdy.
