Roster overhaul, team chemistry boosts Nebraska baseball to first place

"These guys have been totally selfless, totally bought in to the team aspect of it," Bolt said. "They care a ton about each other. They care a ton about Nebraska baseball."

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — To the surprise of many, Nebraska baseball sits on top of the Big Ten standings.

The Huskers were not one of the six teams mentioned in the conference preseason poll. However, head coach Will Bolt says this hot start (13-5) isn’t a surprise to him. He says when he looked at the roster in the fall, he saw something special.

“These guys have been totally selfless, totally bought in to the team aspect of it,” Bolt said. “They care a ton about each other. They care a ton about Nebraska baseball.

“We have some talent. There’s talent up and down the roster. There’s talented veterans. There’s talented fifth-year guys that have come back and really transformed their games. We have a lot of talented freshman that have come in and played really well for us. You have those ingredients on a team that is selfless and cares about the team. That shows up to work every day and has talent as well, you’re going to win some games.”

Nebraska looks to stay hot against Maryland this weekend at Haymarket Park. First pitch for the series opener on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m.
