Severe storm potential for May 12, 2023

Strong to severe storms are possible Friday afternoon in eastern Nebraska. Below is a forecast of what the storms may look like Thursday night through Friday. The line of storms that form Friday afternoon are the ones that have the severe potential:

Hail, damaging wind, and isolated tornadoes will be possible with storms that do form.

Spc01

A level 2 out of 5 Slight Risk is in place for much of eastern and north central Nebraska for Friday afternoon and evening. A level 1 Marginal Risk is just to the west of that.

Spc04

There is a 2-5% chance for a tornado. That doesn’t sound like much, but it does mean that a few tornadoes are possible.

Spc03

Large hail is a possibility Friday afternoon. The area that you see the thick, black lines has a chance at seeing 2″+ size hail.

Spc02

Damaging wind will be possible, as well. Wind gusts in excess of 50 mph will be likely.

3day Lincoln Forecast With Hourlies02

A few showers and storms will be possible in the morning, but the better chance for severe weather comes in after 3pm.
