Many residents woke up to a similar situation Thursday morning, patio furniture in places they shouldn’t be and lots of tree limbs and branches in their yard. Unfortunately for one couple in Lincoln, it was more than just that. A tree split at the base of its trunk and fell directly onto their car and parts of their home near 56th Street and Old Cheney. The tree did not break through the roof of the home but caused enough damage that will take days to clear up.
The severe thunderstorms came from the west of Nebraska and hit the Lincoln area around 1 a.m. Thursday. It brought rain, lightening, and extremely strong winds. Some cities in Nebraska had 60-80 mile per hour winds.
