The Sun returns in time for the weekend
After several cloudy, rainy days the sun is going to return to southeast Nebraska this weekend.
Rain from Friday night/early Saturday morning will move out of the Channel 8 viewing area by 6 a.m. Saturday. Clouds may hang around for a few hours Saturday, but they will be decreasing quickly through the morning. I’m expecting skies to turn mostly sunny by late morning/early afternoon.
Temperatures should be able to rebound to the lower and middle 60°s by afternoon. It should be a pleasant day, although winds will be sustained 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 mph out of the northwest.
The farther we go in to spring, the higher the sun angle becomes. This allows the sun’s rays to strengthen which could lead to sunburn if you aren’t careful. We’ll be watching that over the next several months.
The UV Index will peak at 6 Saturday afternoon, between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. That means your skin could burn in as little as 35-minutes without SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.
While many want to be out in the sun – myself included! – be sure to apply sunscreen as we start seeing the UV Index climbing. As I like to say, “Don’t become a lobster!” Plus, it is good for your health. No one wants to deal with skin cancer later in life.
