Valuable Vegetables: Freeman FFA Members Give Food to Community Through Garden

Gage County, Neb. (KLKN) – The Freeman Public Schools’ National FFA Organization (FFA) is working hard this summer as they start their own community garden.

Their mission is to grow food for people with food insecurities in Gage County. According to Freeman Public Schools, the food insecurity rate is over 12% in Gage County, including 1 in 5 children.

The FFA chapter members meet once a week to tend to the garden. The community garden consists of cucumbers, squash, tomatoes and much more that will be harvested in the next few weeks.

Students plant, weed, till and mulch to maintain the garden. They say this is the least they can do for their community.
