‘Boo at the Zoo’ returns for another year of Halloween fun

‘Boo at the Zoo’ has been a Lincoln Children’s Zoo tradition for decades. Saturday night, thousands of people kicked off Halloween with the annual event.

The five–day experience welcomes friends and families of all ages to trick–or–treat and explore the zoo as the sun begins to set.

“It’s a great fundraiser for the zoo cause the animals live here all winter long we gotta keep them fed and keep them warm OK, we also want to provide a great trick or treating opportunity for the community,” says John Chapo, the Lincoln Zoo Director.

The zoo features 40 different trick-or-treat stations hosted by sponsors to fill candy bags with treats, fruit, food coupons and much more.

“He actually loves Mario, he has a little Nintendo at home and so that’s kinda where we came up with the idea we asked him you wanna be Mario and he said yup so our costumes just kinda came together,” says Brittany, Drew and Ryder Bingham.

For some, it was their first visit to Lincoln’s largest trick or treat event, but for others, they were keeping the tradition alive.

“We always come to boo on the zoo we’ve been taking her since she was in probably preschool maybe even younger than that so it’s just a fun event and its a nice night out,” says Erica Weedin, with her group friends and children dressed as woodland creatures.

“He loves candy and loves Halloween and we came for the first time last year and we had a blast and he had a really good time so we decided to come back!” says Brittany Bingham.

The zoo expects to see anywhere from 15 to 25 thousand people over the 5-day event.

Saturday was just the start of ‘Boo at the Zoo.’ For tickets and information, you can visit the Lincoln Children’s Zoo website here.
