Pat and Dale Frahm have had their pick of the deck when it comes to friends.
The couple and their clan have been together for 60 years, wheelin’ and dealin’ ten-point pitch.
"It was a surprise birthday party for [Dale] when he turned 20 and we just had a bunch of people come play cards,” Pat Frahm said.
Six couples came together that October. They had so much fun they decided to do it again and again.
Two more pairs joined in 1959. Nearly 60 years later, the group still plays once a month.
"We’ve never gotten the same day we just…sometimes Saturday or Sunday,” Pat said. “We’ve done it during the week too."
Whether it’s a game of cards or the game of life, they’ve stuck together through the wins and losses.
They’ve attended each others weddings, helped raise each others kids, grand kids and great grand kids. The card family is more than 170 people strong.
They’ve even had to bury two of their own. Two of the husbands passed away, but their wives still come every month.
Their lives have shuffled around, but one thing has stayed the same.
"We tried others like pinochle, but we knew pitch enough to where we could visit,” Dale said. “We do a lot of that.”
Every month, it’s someone else’s turn to host.
Not everyone lives in nelson anymore.
Most still reside in Nuckolls County and one couple lives across the state line in Kansas.
Still, they wouldn’t miss the tricks and trumps for the world.
"We get together and play, enjoy each other and talk about what each other are doing," Pam said.
There aren’t any plans of cashing in on their pitch perfect club anytime soon.
